UMEX Japanese Cultural Experience event (Calligraphy & Tea ceremony) at CNP

I had a nice experience attending the Japanese Cultural Experience event (Calligraphy & Tea ceremony) held on Saturday, January 28th, 2023 at Snack Lounge (Cafe No Problem). The event was planned by UMEX (UONUMA Association for Multicultural EXchange) which is a community founded by local people.

In Japan, calligraphy (Shodo) has been a major art of writing for a long period of time. Originally the art of writing Chinese characters (Kanji) was introduced together with Buddhism. People practice it not only to improve their writing skills, but also to discipline themselves.

The tea ceremony was introduced into Japan from China during the Nara period (A.D. 700 period) and established in Muromachi period (A.D. 1,300 period) as sadou (the way of tea). This is an opportunity to taste of the real the typical Japanese traditional cultures.
