We had a trip to Indigenous Nissan Corporation Plant/Office at Yokohama Japan on 6 June, 2023 for Digital Supply Chain Management. It is the origin of Nissan Motor that was founded in 1933 on a property of 6600m2 size. It’s almost same sq meter as Tokyo Disney land. If measured by soccer field, it’s 75 with 3300 staff on site. The founder was Yoshiuke Aikawa and there has been a couple of improvement, mergers among others overtime. The first car began with the red Datsun Faylon 12 pictured in here.

Nissan has successfully Produced over 200 cars for the past 90 years (1933 to 2023 presently). The company has 29 locations abroad. This includes electric cars, with aim is to produce 27 different electric cars by 2030. The objective is to use electric cars as battery in the future. They are making progress in Automatic driving cars.
The Nissan Pro power engine is 5 different types in cars. They drive like electric cars. They don’t need to be charged. With Pro power 2.0 drive supporting technology, when you drive on highway, and the sensor sense a car ahead, it turns to overtake the car and come back to lane. The e-4orce has different steering.

Nissan Factory Production
We proceeded to see the process of producing Nissan cars inside the factory of Yokohama plant was founded in 1935. It was the first plant for mass production in Japan. In 1965 engine and suspension began. The plant has Office, Producing components, assembly line… It makes 2 cars and 4 engines. The 5 steps for producing engines – assemble engine (cylinder head, block, bear engine, bear engine with other components makes finished goods of the engine with others

The factory produces power train Engine in the facility. The live viewing of Infinity QX 80 Engine production and assembly process which weigh 240kg fascinated me. The Robots carry the cylinder block, head and others and position them for accuracy in their various sections/departments. This saves time, more accurate and excellent

for repetitive task. Human are available to compliment and troubleshoot, but they let robot do the difficult and heavy lifting parts. Averagely, it takes 8 hours to produce a car.

I observed some wear helmet and others wear hat (cap), it depends on the place they are working. If working with robots, they must wear helmet for safety. But where you do hand making process, you can wear hat. Some caps are signs of seniority and hierarchy.

Nissan GTR 3 engine is hand produced by specialist Takumi professionals; they are very few in Japan. They are so rare that if one of them is not absent they can’t produce. Obviously, the schedule of Takumi changes according to the plan and natural phenomenon.
